Elmer

Andersen Press Joins Forces With Wild In Art

Bringing Elmer Sculpture Trails To The UK’s Streets!

Andersen Press and creative event producers Wild in Art announce a new three-year partnership to bring public art trails featuring 1.1m tall Elmer sculptures to Britain’s towns and cities.

Elmer’s Big Art Parade will consist of sculpture trails inspired by one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time. Written and illustrated by celebrated children’s author and artist David McKee, Elmer was published by Andersen Press in 1989 and the brightly coloured patchwork elephant now features in a number of original stories, activity books, toys and on clothing.

The parades of elephants will provide visually stunning trails of art and take place in 2019, 30 years since Elmer was first brought to life in a book. The public art trails, funded by corporate sponsors and raising money for charity, will see blank Elmer sculptures decorated by well-known and talented local artists, and celebrity names.

The locations for the sculpture trails and the charity partners will be announced later this year during Brand Licensing Europe (10-12 October). Delegates are encouraged to visit the Elmer statues that will be displayed throughout the expo to get a first look – these will be elephants in the room that simply cannot be ignored!

Charlie Langhorne, Director of Wild in Art, said: “We’re excited to be linking up with Andersen Press, an organisation that shares our belief in the power of creativity to shape lives. Elmer is a beloved classic and firm family favourite that promotes positive messages about inclusivity, bravery and friendship. By transforming the elephant into a blank 3D canvas for beautiful artwork, Elmer’s Big Art Parade will trumpet these values by sharing stories through visual art, giving communities a voice and uniting businesses, artists, and young people.”

Libby Hamilton, Picture book Editorial Director at Andersen Press, said: “Elmer has a very special place in our hearts and the hearts of millions of readers around the world, and we couldn’t think of a better partner for him than Wild in Art. We can’t wait to see what all the different artists do with such an iconic canvas, all in aid of some worthy charity partners – this is one elephant parade you can’t miss!”

Wild in Art creates events that inform, enrich, entertain and leave a lasting legacy in host towns and cities. It has famously presented similar events across the UK including Snowdog Art Trails in Newcastle and Brighton with Penguin Ventures, Oor Wullie’s Bucket Trail alongside DC Thomson, The Big Hoot in Birmingham, Gromit Unleashed in Bristol and Go Superlambananas in Liverpool, attracting worldwide headlines. Elmer will sit in Wild in Art’s existing portfolio of sculptures inspired by animals, mythical creatures, well-known characters and books.
