We are delighted to be working with Colchester Zoo to present Stand Tall for Giraffes in celebration of the zoo’s 50th birthday in 2013.

Stand Tall Giraffe

For 10 weeks next summer, Colchester’s streets, parks and open spaces will be taken over by some unusual visitors – 2.5 metre high giraffe sculptures. Designed and painted by local professional artists, the sculptures will celebrate the creativity of Colchester. The event will culminate in an auction of the sculptures to raise funds for global conservation projects through Colchester Zoo’s charity Action For The Wild, including the charity’s UmPhafa Reserve in South Africa.

Talented sand sculptress Nicola Wood from CBBC’s Deadly Art Show has completed a fantastic giraffe sand sculpture at Colchester Zoo to launch the start of the Stand Tall Road Trip. Nicola is the world sand sculpting champion and created the sculpture from 15 tonnes of sand! The sand sculpture will eventually form the centrepiece of a garden to celebrate Colchester Zoo’s 50th birthday in 2013.

This summer, make sure you look out for one of the giant giraffes as he visits locations around the town and county as a preview to next year’s event.

You can also see a colourful Stand Tall mural at the Roman House and further murals are planned at The Mercury Theatre external walls and Sainsbury’s Tollgate imposing glass front of store.
