SCHOOLS

The importance of creativity in education is increasingly being recognised,  As Chairman of the House of Commons Education Committee Barry Sheerman MP said: "Successful schools are creative schools”.

Wild in Art Education offers a range of 3-dimensional sculptures of endangered animals specially designed to capture the essence of the animal whilst acting as a canvas for teachers to engage students in a creative experience. This experience delivers on three levels: Creativity, Conservation and Citizenship.

Each Wild in Art Education programme is delivered with an education pack that ties in with the themes of the national curriculum. In addition, the pack includes worksheets, ideas about using the sculptures to fund-raise, gaining media attention and working in cluster groups with other schools – all designed to create an unforgettable experience for the school and the local community.

And, on the education pack, "I think it is very well researched and organised and gives teachers plenty of scope at KS3 to adapt it to suit individual class needs as well as time constraints. I think it is also great to see such an environmental focus, as it is, I believe, such projects at KS3 that can help students to discover and develop opinions about important environmental issues."

"We are always racking our brains to come up with rich new experiences for our pupils. Painting an elephant is such fun and so very different from painting on flat pieces of paper. Themed projects such as the elephant project, which included learning about elephant conversation and welfare, supports the national emphasis on personalised learning. Even the naming of the elephant involved the whole school. Mrs Trunker now resides colourfully in the school grounds. A few years time, we may paint over her thus providing another cohort of pupils with the experience. We would also like to enhance a staff inset day on creativity by designing and painting one of Wild in Art’s other animals."

"The creative process of designing and then painting the elephant become a whole school activity. Irrespective of the age of the child, each one took ownership of the project and it becoming a very unifying project".
