Stand Tall

Stand Tall for Giraffes

2 June – 26 August 2013

We are delighted to be working with Colchester Zoo to
present Stand Tall for Giraffes in celebration of the zoo’s 50th birthday in
2013.

For 12 weeks during the summer, Colchester’s streets, parks and open
spaces will be taken over by some unusual visitors. Designed and painted by
local professional artists, the creativity of Colchester has been unleashed
with the launch of our new 2.5 metre giraffe sculptures. The designs have been
inspired by African colours, local history and characters. Twenty-nine artists
have taken part in the event, alongside 82 schools, each designing a medium
sized giraffe.

Zoo director Anthony Tropeano said: “Stand Tall is a fantastic spectacle
for the people of Colchester. It’s an excellent way to raise vital funds for
the conservation work and to celebrate our 50th anniversary.  This is our
gift to the people of Colchester and the surrounding area for their support
over the years.”

The event will culminate in an auction of the sculptures on 19 September.
This is to raise funds for global conservation projects through Colchester Zoo’s
charity ‘Action For The Wild’; including the charity’s UmPhafa Reserve in South Africa.

Alternatively, download the Stand Tall App for iPhone and Android. This
