Oor Wullie fever grips HMP Kilmarnock

The prison’s Art Tutor, Carlann, has taken inspiration from this summer’s Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail, which saw hundreds of Oor Wullie sculptures on display around Scotland.

She encouraged her students to stage their own bucket trail to showcase their artistic talents and creativity. Inmates in the East Ayrshire prison created their own designs, some of which have made it onto canvas. Many creations also made the leap from the page to 3D, as inmates proudly painted figurines during their art classes. For some that had children, it enabled them to connect with the fun art trail and in turn, connect with their kids and family at home.

Designs included a fantastic Rab C. Nesbitt Oor Wullie and a Mother’s Pride Oor Wullie (pictured), which takes its name and decoration from the famous Scottish loaf of bread.

The miniature Oor Wullies and canvasses are on display around the prison for the next couple of months.
